Need Music for Inspired Design? Kinda dive bar, kinda glam… Okay, that’s Hanoi Rocks.

Yessiree! The raucous, overly made up, Finnish fuckarounds, Hanoi Rocks kicked MONSTROUS ass on their album Back To Mystery City.

I know, that is a shitload of hairspray and a ton or two of makeup, but man these guys could drive women wild.  Even though they camped it up like nobodies business, they had a TON of great songs that are still massively cool today.

Here’s one now.

Why for design? Uh, duh… I’m doing some new designs. Shop Popular Naughty for delicious dive bar fashion for a night at the burlesque house, record shop, comic con, or time traveling box. It’s high fashion… on a t-shirt. Yeah. It is.

Armageddon Now! No? Maybe Later.

False Alarm! But here is the post as originally ran on 5-21-2010.

Saturday!  Possibly the End of the World! and you might say… “It’s the End of the World, and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. But it was a really good deal!!” at the Armageddon Sale-a-bration!

Well it looks like we are done for. Sure this Camping prediction guy has been wrong before, but what are the odds of THAT ever happening again. I mean, this time he’s got CAMPERS. Figure THAT… Camping has campers!
Doomsday Campers Project Caravan

All ya’ll that believe in Jesus will be carried into heaven, while the rest of humanity will endure 153 days of ‘death and horror’, because you suck. Then the world will completely end, really, really, really end on October 21. This is, of course, really lame timing because one would naturally hope to have MOST of the death and horror bits to really reach a climax on Oct. 31st. Hell on Earth for Halloween? Wow. It could have been pretty memorable.

So, about our sale…  This one, particularly suited for the “end of the world”, is the Illuminaughty.  It celebrates the secret society of mysterious cosmic rulers that end the world from time to time until they “get it right”.  And yeah, the Mayan End of the World, will probably knock this one out of the ring.  THAT is probably the big one, and in this shirt, you can walk around like you already knew that.

And if you use your credit card, hey, will you REALLY be around to pay the bill? SHOP till the world drops! And look like an end of the world charmer in Popular Naughty! It’s 153 torturous days of lookin’ good.

Available in 2 diff shirt bodies, male and female, female shown here.
It has a diff sleeve y’know. Only in black, because that’s cool.  Don’t worry, the male shirt is even bad-assier.

SHOP till the world drops! And look like an end of the world charmer in Popular Naughty! It’s 153 torturous days of lookin’ good.

Happy Pop Art and a Bad Psychedelic Experience

I am a big fan of psychedelic art, or psychedelic anything for that matter.  Popular Naughty has a heaping helping of burlesque and subversiveness, with a firm pinch of punk rock- but it needs more garage psychobilly and 60s weirdness.  Maybe this will help me be inspired.

A burlesque t-shirt named Betty on a punk rock pin-up photographer named Rocky.

Yes citizens of New Rome!  Our empire crumbles around us!  Get ready to salvage the cool stuff from the debris and look good while doing so.  This iconic cloth monster is a design built as shrine to Bettie Page/Dita Von Teese/ and every other boom-boom burlesque chick out there.  It comes in Mens sizes/cut, as well as female cuts and tank tops.  One of the rather clever things THIS burlesque t-shirt has is the placement of the graphic.  The larger the chest display the more voluptuous the hips of the design get.  WOW!  I’m CLEVER!  Or at the very least, clever-ish.

Hey kids, sport your alt-art, hot rod, punk rock design style with a Popular Naughty t-shirt.  It’s fashion for the next generation of monsters.

Geekiness is SO in style right now.

Super Geek Out Awesomeness!

Movie Trailer – Sucker Punch

Blowing our minds March 25, 2011
Action | Fantasy Big Time Hollywood flick
Cast: Jon Hamm: uh huh, the Madmen guy, Vanessa Hudgens:  Disney and internet-nude sensation, Jamie Chung: just super-pretty and medium-known- Asian style , Abbie Cornish: just super-pretty and medium-known- Caucasian style, and of course, Emily Browning:  that incredibly strange/gorgeous creature that was way inappropriately pretty in “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” because she was so young, but you still couldn’t help but to think, “Wow, what a pretty girl.”
Director: Zack Snyder of 300 and (I really liked it) Watchmen fame.
Writers: Zack Snyder, Steve Shibuya

Badass intro from Led Zeppelin included.

Studio: Warner Broheims

They say,

“Sucker Punch” is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. (You know, like crazy people do).  Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary. (Again, a lot like what a crazy person does). She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).
Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey—if they succeed—will set them free.

So it’s like a hot, awesome version of what goes on in the minds of loonies, but if all sanity-impaired people looked like the action chicks in this massive, stylzed geek fest there wouldn’t be a homeless problem.

PS, Shop at the Popular Naughty Burlesque T-shirt store, love ya.

bur·lesque – huh, waddya mean?

Just to explain why I go on about this burlesque thing.

Masuimi Max, Certified Sexbomb

bur·lesque

n.
1. A literary or dramatic work that ridicules a subject either by presenting a solemn subject in an undignified style or an inconsequential subject in a dignified style. See synonyms at caricature.
Uhh, hell yeah. We need a LOT more absurdity in a world filled with “tea party people” that are obviously as mad as hatters.

2. A ludicrous or mocking imitation; a travesty: The antics of the defense attorneys turned the trial into a burlesque of justice.
Like when making fun of people in the Tea Party by letting you all know we aren’t witches. Which we are not.  For reallys.

3. A variety show characterized by broad ribald comedy, dancing, and striptease.
Like every night that is good and wonderful.

v., -lesqued, -lesqu·ing, -lesques. and my new verb - lesqueotronned, which means it was burlesqued by a machine from the future that burlesques things.

v.tr.
To imitate mockingly or humorously: “always bringing junk . . . home, as if he were burlesquing his role as provider” (John Updike).  That’s totally ME!

v.intr.
To use the methods or techniques of burlesque. Yep.

[From French, comical, from Italian burlesco, from burla, joke, probably from Spanish, from Vulgar Latin *burrula, diminutive of Late Latin burrae, nonsense, from burra, wool.]

Like many things associated with burlesque, it certainly gets around (if you know what I mean.)

burlesque bur·lesque’ adj.
burlesquely bur·lesque’ly adv.
burlesquer bur·lesqu’er n.

There, now you understand a little more about my condition, and I am burlesquely done as a burlesquer… except for this.

Get on the mailing list, subscribe to our feed, use the feedburner email adding thing, our store is about to go LIVE and these cool, punk rock, pop art, burlesquely styled t-shirts are not gonna buy themselves.  (They sell themselves, but they cannot “buy themselves”.  That’s impossible and just plain science.)  Look, look how frackin’ cool these are.  Here’s Rocky to prove it.

Retro Sexy DESTROY T-Shirt and a little Dangerous Voodoo

Lucha Libre Burlesque T-shirt, Destroy, from Popular Naughty Burlesque, punk pop t-shirt co.

DESTROY!
I love this t-shirt. It cycles into being “most popular” all the time. Usaully among those multi faceted, cool geeks that embrace our little project here. It has a LOT of what makes me personally happy. It’s bold, very pop, still kinda dark, with obvious Sci-Fi, Lucha Libre influences, and a hidden message from the secret rulers of Earth… the Illuminaughty. Just part of what makes this t-shirt flippin’ cool. Here is our lovely Rocky, all shell shocked from the pop drama of it all and still looking super awesome.

If that’s not enough for you overstimulators out there, enjoy some cannibals, superfab swim(?)wear, and hot dancing chicks as Joi Lansing, Scopitone star, is caught in the “Web of Love”

Yeah, this shirt does good at the San Diego Comic Con.

Misfits, Libertines, and the Intellectual Elite

All great ingredients to what I would consider an interesting life. Those are the kind of people that can tell the difference between a strip joint and a burlesque show. The kind that can enjoy their own liberties without needing to urinate on the liberties of others. The clever, the smart, the learning, and the sadly- so sadly, elite intellectual. That’s the funny thing about the intellectual elite, they really, really, really would rather be the intellectual common.
Oh by the way, here is a saucy burlesque t-shirt from Popular Naughty simply (and obviously) named Sexbomb.

BOOM!!

Grant Morrison is TOTALLY a bad guy!

My Chemical Romance is a pretty damn good band. They do good things for geek chic as well. Gerard Way is WAY into the comic book scene and truly helps highlight some of the superb, post-pop, colorful influences that can only be found at such gatherings as Comic Con.

Here, they up the ante by including another geek icon, rambling, prolific, and unpredictable Brit writer, Grant Morrison, as the post-apocalyptic protagonist in their new video. And it’s a great song! A fun anthem for society’s long goodbye.

My Chemical Romance – \"Na Na Na\" (Official Music Video)
Art IS the weapon.
